A Good Neighbor

The first project assigned in UVU’s Studio II course is “A Good Neighbor.” This project challenges the student to design a single-family home with an adjacent ADU to be built in the Juaquin neighborhood in Provo, Utah. When I took Studio II in the Spring of 2025, one of the parameters of the assignment was to have our designs be a Craftsman-style home that would complement the neighborhood’s existing architecture. This design draws precedent from the iconic craftsman homes of Pasadena, California. Characterized by shallow roofs, squat columns, exposed carpentry, and simple lines, this proposed home embodies the core elements of the Arts and Crafts style.
