The Monument to the Family
The final project for UVU’s Classical Architecture Workshop is a Gazebo to cover the Monument to the Family sculpture located north of the Provo City Center LDS Temple. Students are tasked with designing a gazebo-like structure patterned after the Corinthian Order to complement the Temple and the sculpture. The solution I proposed drew inspiration from LDS theology and elements from the Temple itself, with twelve columns to represent the Twelve Tribes of Israel and a motif of the Sun, Moon, and Stars to represent the LDS Plan of Salvation. Beneath the shallow dome is a fresco-like painting of the sun and the stars, while a six-sided replica of the City Center Temple’s main spire adorns the top.
